From 1948 to 1985, organizations for energy sector are organized under Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Industry (2). Ministry of Energy was formed on 1985 April (12) by Council of State. In 2016, union government combined Ministry of Electric Power and Ministry of Energy as Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
The Ministry of Energy, Myanmar initially focused on developing the country's oil and gas sector, which was the most important source of energy at the time. It oversaw the establishment of the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise, which is responsible for the exploration, production, and distribution of oil and gas in Myanmar.
In 2022 May, SAC reconstituted the ministry as Ministry of Electric Power and Ministry of Energy.
Our Vision
. Diversification of Energy Sources: The ministry is working to diversify Myanmar's energy sources to reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels and increase the use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower.
. Promotion of Energy Efficiency: The ministry is promoting energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption and increase energy productivity in all sectors of the economy.
. Development of Energy Infrastructure: The ministry is developing energy infrastructure such as power transmission and distribution networks, gas pipelines, and storage facilities to ensure that energy is delivered reliably and efficiently to consumers.
. Attracting Foreign Investment: The ministry is working to attract foreign investment in the energy sector by offering tax incentives and other benefits to investors.

. Increasing Access to Energy: The ministry aims to increase access to energy for all citizens of Myanmar, particularly those in rural and remote areas, by expanding energy infrastructure and promoting the use of off-grid renewable energy solutions.
. Promoting Energy Efficiency: The ministry is promoting energy efficiency measures across all sectors of the economy to reduce energy consumption and increase energy productivity.
. Developing Human Resources: The ministry is developing the skills and capabilities of its workforce to ensure that it has the knowledge and expertise to manage the country's energy resources effectively.
